CROSSFIRE GAME LAUNCHER

Launcher Updates

What has improved on your way into the Crossfire universe – clear updates for players and the community.

This history covers the launcher. Changes to missions, ships or Multiplayer game content belong to Crossfire game updates.

1.7.6Latest entry

More reliable creation of new accounts

  • When creating a new account, the launcher checks both the 32-bit and 64-bit Windows registry views. A 32-bit launcher no longer reports the required Windows value as missing when it exists only in the 64-bit view.
  • This check only reads the Windows data; it does not change it.
1.7.5

Keep your installation key safe through missing registry values

  • Account Manager retains the last known installation key when saving accounts, even if the current Windows registry entry is missing or empty.
  • When refreshing the registry information, a saved installation key can be restored if the entry is missing or empty. An existing key is preserved.
  • The log reports whether the account ID and installation key are present without printing the identifiers themselves.
1.7.4

More reliable startup, clearer active windows

  • The launcher prevents graphics DLLs from the game folder from loading into its own process, avoiding conflicts with game graphics wrappers during launcher startup.
  • An animated title and a colored line highlight the active launcher window, making it easier to see which window currently has focus.
1.7.3

Understand update problems

  • Errors identify the affected file. When another program holds it open, the launcher can identify that program in the log, making it easier to narrow down the cause.
  • Failed file deletions are no longer reported as successful, making update problems easier to diagnose.
1.7.2

A quicker path into the game

  • Game launch preparation works more efficiently. The documented tests particularly benefited mechanical hard drives; the improvement depends on your system.
  • Game options are applied more reliably. A file or folder disappearing during preparation no longer aborts the entire launch.
  • The window shadow stays in the right place when switching from another application to the launcher.
1.7.1

Fewer false alarms after playing

  • A particular normal Freelancer shutdown is no longer mistaken for a crash. Genuine crashes remain covered when capture is enabled.
  • Routine diagnostic logs expose fewer internal file paths. Warnings and errors retain the details needed for troubleshooting.
1.7.0

Clearer controls and better crash support

  • When crash capture is enabled, a dedicated status window shows progress and any capture errors. After a successful capture, you can create a support package.
  • You can choose how many crash dumps to retain. Support packages include additional Windows error information; account data remains excluded.
  • Dialogs and selection states are easier to read. Account Manager separates profile actions more clearly from full-list backups.
  • The offline screen explains the connection requirement for Multiplayer while keeping Single Player available. A normal double-click no longer immediately cancels an update it just started.
1.6.0

Easier window controls, fewer lost edits

  • Escape closes Settings, Logs and Account Manager. Their toolbar icons also close a window that is already open.
  • Account Manager asks before discarding unsaved profile changes.
  • The Log window opens at a more usable size. The About window can no longer disappear behind a blocked launcher through minimization.
1.5.0

Your launcher, your colors

  • Choose from six themes: Crossfire Red, Blue, Petrol, Green, Orange and Pink. Your selection applies immediately and survives a restart.
  • Settings and Account Manager are more usable at larger UI scales. Content and important controls are no longer cut off at window edges.
  • Buttons and dialogs render more smoothly and consistently.
1.4.0

Read logs without losing your place

  • The Log window remains more responsive with many entries. Scrolling up to read pauses automatic following of new entries.
  • Enable Verbose logging in Settings; the setting survives a restart. Information about each launcher session helps with diagnosis.
  • Fatal launcher errors are written immediately to the log file so important information can survive a crash.
1.3.0

Better prepared for community support

  • Create a ZIP of diagnostic information for an issue report from the Log window.
  • Experimental game crash capture is optional and disabled by default. Enable it in Settings when needed.
  • If the launcher is outside the required EXE folder, it shows a clear message before launch.
1.2.0

Smoother updates and persistent logs

  • Downloads are verified while being transferred. Progress reporting stays more responsive with many small files.
  • A persistent log file supports troubleshooting after a session and rotates as it grows. Pending log entries are saved when the launcher closes.
1.0.0

Single Player remains available offline

  • The launcher detects connection loss and shows an offline screen. Single Player remains available; Multiplayer requires a connection.
  • When the network becomes available again, the launcher attempts to reconnect. Retry lets you try manually.
  • Single Player game updates can be postponed before launch. A badge reminds you of a deferred launcher update, and an already running instance is clearly reported.
0.9.1

Keep your settings and choose more easily

  • Cursor and particle-color choices display previews. Saved settings are no longer reset after restarting the launcher.
  • The About window displays the launcher version, making it easier to include in support requests.
